Weekend photos: It’s a boy! | 1 family. friendly. food.

s smoothie

It’s been a month.

Wow, time sure flies.

We haven’t told too many people yet. Only the grandparents and a handful of our closest friends.

There’s a new addition to our family.

Needless to say, the kids are ecstatic.

Mustache and goatee!

Very excited!

Especially Junior.

Suburban cowboy is ecstatic too. Can’t you tell?

IMG_7171

Well, he is, to some extent. Because it wasn’t planned and I didn’t really ask him.

… It’s a boy.

The kids are ecstatic though. Oh, I’ve said that a couple of times already, haven’t I? I guess it’s because I’m just so tired. I need to catch up on some sleep.

A smoothie is a good idea too.

We have a boy.

Pet.

Fish.

Pet fish boy.

He’s Junior’s pet.

Meet Blubee.

IMG_8890

Actually the official name Junior gave him is Bluetail but I couldn’t help it; I call him Blubee. I had a friend in high school who was nicknamed Blubee and little fishy here kind of reminds me of her. I’m just kidding. No, I’m not.

Junior is very excited about having Blubee and is already planning on the next future pets he would like to have. A shark, an Iguana, a Cyclop (is that a real animal?), a tarantula, a snake… Oh, well, we’ll just have to see about that. To buy some time I tell him, “Let’s talk about it again next April and see how you take care of Blubee. Let’s see if he makes it until next year.”

So far Junior is taking very good care of the little fishy – he is really taking it seriously – feeding him and giving him baths. In fact, today Blubee had his second bath since he moved in with us and Junior did it all by himself. Catching the fish gently with a container, cleaning the tank and all,

As you can see, the whole family is excited about giving Blubee a bath :)

Do you have pets?

and there he goes…

Junior also takes care of the rest of us and pampers us with smoothies,

All kids love to play with electric appliances, don’t they? (Stand close by.)

We tried different combinations but I don’t have a recipe (But there are plenty out there, right?! Just like hummus and pesto!) because this is how were are in this family, improvisers.
The rule of thumb is to have a combination of sweet and sour, and something creamy. You can throw in a pinch of salt too. A splash of lemon juice is mandatory.

Sweet Sour Creamy Other
banana
mango
melon
honey
vanilla extract
kiwi
berries
citrus – juice/zest/fruit: lemon, orange
lettuce (just kidding)
apple
milk (whole)
yogurt
banana
dates
honey
ice
mint
lemon thyme

In summer time, of course, the sky is the limit with nectarines, plums, peaches, apricots… Ohhhh, Summer, come back already!

What do you add to your smoothie?

Such a tease you’ve become! :) Blubee is so cute! I hope y’all have better luck w/him than I did w/my first fishie. Enjoy him! And you’re son’s smoothies look scrumptious!

Watch out. We got a very similar beta a couple years ago and somehow it all turned into a 150 gallon fish tank. Good times. Obviously, we don’t let the kids anywhere near the thing. And I’m in charge of the beta now because after we got cats the kids were done with it. Blubee is cute. The trick is to not overfeed him.

    Kat: Yes, I have. Haven’t I?

Cindy: Oh, no 150 gallon tank? Not becuase of over feeding, right?! ;-)

Blubee takes me back to the summer in college when I drove from California to Oklahoma with two betas from my cousin’s wedding, Cicero and Machiavelli. Cicero sadly died one weekend while I was home from school, and my roommate and another friend kindly buried him for me, ceremony and all. Good luck to Junior and his new companion.

I agree with the others, complete tease. You threw me off with the post title for sure! I would have to say my favorite smoothie addition is frozen cantaloupe. I had it at my gym awhile ago and have been hooked since. You also joke about the lettuce, but I know a lot of bloggers that do that. Not my cup of tea personally, but they seem to like it.

Eric and I had a fish exactly like that. We called him “Mohammad” and you don’t want to know what we did to Mohammed. We were board kids.

Smoothies… I make one almost everyday. With unsweetened Almond milk and various minerals and protein powders added to it.

nice! We had the same for 5 years, his name was Betty the betta fish…(original…haa?), anyway, at the big storm we lost power for a few days and he froze….

Blubee is adorable. When I was growing up we always had fish. My mom never liked animals so we could only have pets that lived in cages or fishtanks.. :)
And that smoothie looks delicious. I always throw whatever I have lying around in a smoothie; no recipes needed for those!

Ohh, we have a bad fish habit. :-) We have a 20 gallon goldfish tank, a 55 gallon tank with two green Severums and a Plecostamus, and a 75 gallon community tank with Cardinals, Otocinclus, and a pair of Swordtails. We’re even talking about getting another tank because our Severums need to be separated. Oh, and we have two cats… and two kids. LOL

You had me fooled too! I was mid-way through the post when I thought: “Oh my god, I didn’t hear Nurit was expecting…I should’ve congratulated her!” hehe.
