Since you've touched on one of my favorite things in the world, books, I thought I'd mention one I just found and thoroughly enjoyed: Jam Today by Tod Davies. You can see my review of the book at http://booknaround.blogspot.com/2009/12/review-jam-today-by-tod-davies.html if you're interested. It's a bit of a cross between a cookbook and a cooking narrative as it's all about cooking with what you have on hand and there are no traditional recipes with measurments, etc. She inspired me to try my hand at more intuitive cooking and it turned out beautifully. Since you are a far better cook than I am, I imagine it would be perfect for you.
