Kristin,
I wish I had words of wisdom to tell you. I don't.
All I can say to you is that I have tried many times to get closer to different family members. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I have a need to be closer to at least a few of them and so I try again. Sometimes I give up when I feel the other person doesn't respond. At least I reached out and created an opportunity. Sometimes the bridge is just too long and shaky to cross to the other side and I know that even though we are family, we are different people. So... that didn't help much, did it?! :)
Wishing you all the best!

This post was truly inspriing. I have an older sister living in another state that I have only met twice - once when I was 8 (before that I didn't even know I had a sister) and again when I was 12. I have thought of her often and want to reach out to her but am apprehensive. Thank you for sharing, it brings tears to my eyes but has motivated me to take the leap. Thank you Nurit.

vicki: I hope so too.

unconfidentialcook, The Little Teochew, Teanna: thank you.

Tiffany: If I made you tear then I'm happy. I'm joking, of course, but am glad to know I managed to touch someone's heart with my words.

Dawn: thank you for sharing your story. Nothing's comes easy. Only with persistence and perseverance. Hopefully.

Diana: I am honored. Thank you so much!

Family...it can be so simple...or so incredibly complicated. I met my sister and two brothers for the first time when I was 14...We too share a father...and we have completely different relationships with him. I never knew him, they were raised by him...Now, I'm nearly 40 and I have forgiven the past...and they can't seem to let go.

You are very lucky to have been able to connect with your sister...I'm only now getting to know mine, and it's funny how much alike we are...in so many ways. Nature vs Nurture...it's facinating...

BTW...good looking food!!

What a nice story! I am sorry to hear about your father, but I am glad to hear that it brought you and your sister together.
