My grandmother just stopped cooking because her hands have begun to shake so much that she was afraid to be near the hot stove. It was striking evidence to all of us of her failing health; I don’t think she ever took a day off cooking. She recently compiled one of those homemade cookbooks full of recipes, and it’s wonderful to have everything together like that. I’m glad I had some time to watch her in the kitchen, though, because some of her instructions are kind of vague.

Only now do I realize how I wish I had done more cooking w/my grandma (I grew up w/one in the same city as me, so all holidays were at her house). I do have a couple of my favorite recipes from her, but wish I had more, esp since she did cook by a pinch of this, a sprinkle of that. I also didn’t find a love of cooking until recently, maybe b/c I never cooked w/my mom. So I LOVE the fact that you want to have your kiddos help in the kitchen and enjoy their meals! Such great memories you are creating for them!
