You are ahead of me. All of my herbs are still in their container. I need to make some raised beds at all. And I wish I had an idea to share with you. But unfortunately I am not a green thumb at all. I'm just hoping I don't kill them. But baking bread.. I'm all over that all year round.

Alice: Yes. I'm starting a veggie garden too! Would love to share ideas with you. It can definitely save a few good $$-$$$ a year, as well as baking your own bread!
I have started with some herbs, arugula seeds (already sprouted), lettuce, mizuna.
I need to build some raised beds but haven't found a time to do it yet.

Nurit, I think you did a fabulous job in doing the Hunger Challenge. As I read other food bloggers posts and comments, the only thing I came away with was that you cannot make everyone happy. I think everything can be debatable but everything is also relative. And BTW, I decided to grow my own herb garden after doing the challenge, $.25 cilantro or not. :) Bests to you.

alice’s last blog post..Chicken Satay and Coconut Peanut Sauce

I totally get your point. It's still way different to live on "hunger challenges" or "food stamp budgets" to know how it feels, rather than actually living that way because you can no longer afford food. I've been there, I was young and it really sucks. Your good intention of helping out is clear though, and that effort is already more than enough.

Imee’s last blog post..Unemployment Assistance, Stimulus for the Unemployed: The Foundation for Getting Back Up

I think that what you learned is that if you HAD to do it, you could...that is an invaluable lesson.
I would like to give it a try...but my family is soooo picky. I wish I had this information when my kids were smaller...

I look forward to more!

Berni: thank you for your kind words.

Dafna: Thank you as well. Yes, I agree, the challnge should have been a month (but then i don't think many food bloggers would have participated). A week was tough. A month would have been impossible.

Tammy: Thank you for your comment. I agree with most of what you wrote, besides me being condesending. Apparently I missed conveying this message and the points that you raised. Did you read all my "hunger" posts last week and got the impression that I think differently? Please, if you can, read them and do let me know? Many thanks. Nurit

Nurit, great work this week. I loved the posts.
I would think this could be a starting point and inspiration to how to build a weekly menu plan on a budget... :)
As for the challenge - I think it would be interesting to hear more conclusions after a month of doing this.
I am proud of you for taking the challenge and making us all think - about others and ourselves....
Thank you!

Your posts give the impression that having a 22$ budget is not so bad. You forget that with a budget like that, you don't shop at whole food market, you don't have a pantry like yours, you can't be spontaneous about your food - you plan ahead and eat only what you can afford, and you probably never indulge yourself or your kids. Could you afford ice cream this week or any other treat? Could you afford to take your kids somewhere (like a museum) and buy them a coke?. Your conclusion is that having a budget means being worried. I think it's much more than that. Your post is a little condescending and it made me very angry.
