These two have so much energy…
This week Joie de vivre asks: do you have a low point in your day? How do you fight the cravings or what are the snacks you choose to snack on to get you through your low point?
Sunny: My afternoon snack is an important part of my weight loss plan. Since there’s no way I can skip it, here’s what I do… Keep reading at That Extra 20 Pounds
Joie de vivre: My weight loss approach changed when I realized the following, most of the time when we’re hungry, we’re not really hungry. So how do I make it through the afternoon without snacking? Click Joie de vivre: An amateur gourmet’s guide to find out.
I’d like to remind you of the Ray’s Boathouse cookbook giveaway…. One lucky reader/visitor can have a copy of the book. All you have to do is write a comment on any post. More details here.
Nurit: I am usually a good girl from the morning and until the afternoon but then the kids come home and the craziness begins.
In the morning I usually have a small breakfast; a cup of coffee (with 1/2 teaspoon raw sugar) and a slice of toasted bread with ricotta cheese and 3 olives – don’t laugh at me – around 9 am when the house is finally quiet, the kids are at school and The Husband at work (I work from home).
Later, I have a little snack of fruit or yogurt. And another cup of coffee.
Lunch is leftovers from last night’s dinner or a sandwich.
I don’t have any cravings or anything crazy because I’m so busy with my work, errands, tasks… that eating is really a distraction and I have already admitted that here.
Then it’s time to pick up my son from school and then go and fetch the baby from day care and the three of us head home or go to park. Beyond that point it’s mainly focusing on the kids and their needs. For example, I find that I wash, peel and slice and feed them fresh fruits but I forget to eat some myself. I will make another cup of coffee to energize myself a bit because I’m starting to feel tired, but I forget to eat.
Then, by dinner time, I might be so hungry that I will eat fast and more then I need. I think about all the tasks still waiting for us – baths, bottle, story time, and tummy rubbing the kids to sleep – so I don’t relax and eat slowly and enjoy it fully. I really should. Maybe when the kids grow up?
So my low point starts usually around 3-4 pm. It seems so silly, but apparently a challenge for me. All I have to do is join my toddler and kindergartener in their snacking on healthy food. I assume that many moms do this, forget their own needs and focus on their children and family’s needs first.
I’m glad that Joie asked this question because it brings to my attention this little thing. I need to take care of myself so I will have more energy and a better mood instead of being a tired and grumpy mom. When I eat better, I feel better and then I am more fun to be around and I can be the Queen Mom that I want to be to my little gems.

Great post! I love the toast with ricotta and olives. Believe me I’m not laughing!! I was introduced to toast with cottage cheese at 10 and I love it to this day! I’ll have to add the olives, because that sounds like heaven!

Cute photos! I find that I sometimes overeat at dinner too. By the time we eat, I’m often very hungry. I try to remember to have a small snack in the late afternoon so that I don’t finish dinner stuffed beyond comfort. I’m not trying to lose weight, but I hate the way I feel after I eat too much.

Great post. I think generally my low point starts about the same time as yours, so by dinner time, I eat all in sight. It’s so important not to get too hungry, that can make anytime in the day a low point for me. Those two look like the most wonderful motivation to learn to care for yourself.

I love the crown picture! In taking care of family this week and have definitely learned that it’s easy to forget to take care of yourself. I think making extra snack that you’re fixing for the kids is a good idea. They are so cute!
